I have a certain respect for the old "innocent" conspiracies like aliens or the moon landing, even the flat earth if it counts. They are mostly imo just intellectual exercises in make-believing what would have to be true for the "conspiracy" to hold. Now "conspiracy theory" is mostly used as an insult or strawman for political reasons to dismiss things that go against orthodoxy. Microchips and space lasers and whatever, maybe someone somewhere believe in that stuff but way more people bring them out cancel dissent. Way less interesting than scrutinizing the moon landing footage
