I use my home server also for serious stuff in terms of data protection and archiving rules. Storing tax things, that need to be archived at least 10 years, backup of databases from my dedicated server in the internet and backup of private data, like photos and so on.
For this I use an encrypted ZFS mirror running on Ubuntu.
The board is a power saving ASRock J4105M with soldered low power CPU.
For each HDD I use an dedicated SATA controller for controller redundancy.
The computer itself is secured with a real steel lock against (too easy) theft!
The database backups from the internet server are coming in incrementally with ZFS snapshots. I love this!
- ComputerGuru 4y agoHow do you manage the encryption keys?
- Aldipower 4y agoThe keys have a password, so, yeah, if the machine reboots I need to ssh in. :-)
