I just upgraded my desktop computer for the first time since about 2010. I've been working on repurposing the old i5-750 based system as a home server. I picked up an old LSI raid card off eBay, and half a dozen budget 1TB SSD's which are setup in a RAID 6. So far, I have nginx with nextcloud, postfix for mail, and Jellyfin. And of course Samba for local file sharing. I also still have a pi 3b with a 1TB SSD running 64 bit ARM Ubuntu, which was my previous home server. It's still running DNS, which is actually setup split zone, so it serves not only my home network, but also public DNS for my domain. Nothing super fancy, but it works for me and has been fun to tinker with. I was able to recover a whole bunch of old media from a pile of drives in a storage tote that had been a RAID in a previous home server about ten years ago.
