I used to collect links and abstracts of things that were of interest to me on a customized WordPress install, visible to the public. And I did such a good job that my "site" was very rich. The problem was not storage, so to speak, the problem was, and still is, recollection. I had no need or I didn't remember >95% of the things I stored, and for that 5% that I needed or remember, I could just as easily find them using google. So I abandoned the practice and now google is my new bookmark site.
