I ran a raspberry (model 1, then 2, 3, 4) since forever, which has been fun. Switched to an intel NUC recently as I had a spare and needed the compute power. Being able to run on 32 gb ram with an nvme disk feels good, but the pi has served my needs pretty well...

- mqtt broker, that ties the sensors around my house together

- some cron jobs that scrape weather data and energy prices (they change hourly, sometimes going negative)
- security camera (a shell script saving an RTSP stream)
- a docker container that I can ssh into from anywhere, that allows backing up the iphone photo roll using the "photosync" app into my photo backup folder

- viraptor 4y agoDefine cheap. I'm running an Intel NUC d54250wyk (launched 2013) which takes up to 16GB DDR3L. You can't definitely find that class of hardware got cheap on eBay these days. Update SSD and memory and it's still great.
- viraptor 4y agoStupid auto-correct. Should be: "You can definitely find that class of hardware for cheap on eBay these days."

- Semaphor 4y agoNot sure which those are, but all the J/N 4000 series CPUs are only rated for 8 GB, yet I never heard of anyone having issues with 16, though not always at the maximum supported frequencies.
