Is it social harm though? Or is society as a large learning to rely less on socializing and more on themselves? While I know there are those who lament the "before" times, there are many I'm aware of that say their lives have improved in some way - and one of them is lower social obligation. That is to say, that people don't feel compelled to socialize and don't feel as bad about it as they used to. The net effect being that they have more time for themselves and can spend that time however they want.
- paulpauper 4y agoIt seems like these is this whole cottage industry of sociologists making careers out of decrying the state of 'today's generation': loneliness epidemic, too much time online, too much coddling, snowflakes, etc. Maybe 'our' generation is different and doesn't choose to conform to the mold of 'your' generation, just like every other generation. The net effect being that they have more time for themselves and can spend that time however they want. Agree. I learned how to code. Sure, that required little socializing but I think it was worthwhile . Having free time is fun. Sometimes other people can be draining and demanding. It's like these nagging sociologists and social commentators want to take away our fun and autonomy.
