Channel 4 privatisation plans scrapped in government U-turn
- ggm 4y agoIt was a complete waste of time, an overtly politicised act which bore no relationship to either popular sentiment, industry needs or even revenue outcome to the state. In every sense, a stupid plan. About the only more stupid one would be to try and sell the BBC, even as a shadow of its former glory still a bastion of popular sentiment. Yes, there are now hoards of cordcutters who resent the licence fee. No, it does not translate to a vote winner. Just imagine every BBC icon (overpaid or not) queueing up behind David Attenborough to sell why it's a bad idea. The Tory government needed a distraction. Within limits it worked, much as hitting yourself in the face does to hide away your footwork. Massive own goal stuff.
