How are they even going to enforce this? There's probably millions of porn sites out there, and 99% of them are not even going to be aware of this law and not care if they do, especially in the case of foreign owned sites. This really just punishes the biggest sites that are aware and try to play by the rules (e.g. pornhub.) Why go to a site that requires verification when you can choose one of hundreds of thousands that won't.
- ttyprintk 4y agoEnforcement will start by making a dramatic example. Probably a loudly-publicized trans storyline.
- jesuscript 4y agoWho knows, this might be 3d chess by lobbyist. They might be carving out a porn lobby, where porn sites have to shell out money to the crooked system to stop these laws.
- silent_cal 4y agoFamilies will be allowed to sue the porn companies if their kids are exposed to pornography on their websites.
- ttyprintk 4y agoAnd in doing so, they get to make a public argument for the moral justification of monetary damages. The cynic in me expects Puritanical groups in America want those damages to reflect a judgement on deviance or pronouns.
- cowsup 4y agoEnforcement is not the job of the politicians. They just write the "Save the Children" laws and then go out and pat themselves on the back to their constituents.
- hn_throwaway_99 4y agoAre there really millions of porn sites out there? Doesn't MindGeek own like the majority of porn traffic online? Even given the volume of sites I'd easily bet the vast majority of traffic goes to a relatively small number of sites.
