Worth noting that H1B is more difficult to get without a college degree (so I've been told). I have no credentials and the companies I'd like to work for don't care for them either, but unfortunately the government cares because that's their only grading system for people (it's not like they're gonna look at your GitHub profile).
There have been several companies in the past years that expressed their interest in hiring me but were put away by this problem. I don't blame them, I blame the system.
- jordinl 15y agoI think it's a Bachelors degree or the equivalent years of experience, with one year of a degree being equivalent to 4 years of work experience. So you would need 12 or 16 years of work experience...
- jurre 15y agoThat's funny because in the real world I think it's more like the other way around, 1 year of work experience is like 4 years of a degree. (Note: I'm currently studying cs)
- fbuilesv 15y agoIt's actually 3 years of work experience per university year. For most countries outside the US that's still at least 9-12 years of work experience. When people ask me what the downsides of dropping out of college were, this one is the most important.
