Which (for me) brings up this never-asked question. You hear about the cattle methane ... but how much CO2 do 8 billion people breathe out in a year?
- Berazu 4y agoYou are simply breathing out CO2 that is already in the air, what you might want to point at instead is people farting.
- out-of-ideas 4y agoreminds me of this article (posted a few times): https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&query=lose+weight+where+does+it+go&sort=byPopularity&type=story https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que... you missed a great deal of opportunity telling people they are wrong
- nabla9 4y agoNo. People breathe out CO2 that is product of their own metabolism. Oxygen + carbohydrates in, CO2 out.
- 8bitsrule 4y agoEventually I found an article that addresses this question: https://www.nrdc.org/stories/do-we-exhale-carbon https://www.nrdc.org/stories/do-we-exhale-carbon It calculates that "a population of 7 billion people, breathing away for 365.25 days per year, and you get an annual CO2 output of 2.94 billion tons." It then points out that " human respiration is part of a “closed loop cycle” in which our carbon dioxide output is matched by the carbon dioxide taken in by the wheat, corn, celery, and Ugli fruit that we eat." Except, of course, for weight we add to our bodies. Of course that doesn't stop each of us from combusting 5 tons of CO2 each year.
