- fortyseven 4y agoI absolutely concur! This post just made my day.
- _8j50 4y agoVery funny. But your assumption that people want a positive response is incorrect. Personally, the method that would work for me is if you disagreed with me in a reasonable way. If I cared enough though I would also use ML to troll and evade bans. Matter of fact, I learned most java when I was a kid when bypassing bans and spamming (i grew out of it). The hardest part of moderation imho is appearing fair. A humorous comment I made just like your comment, was used as an example of "low value" comment when I asked why i was being shadowjailed. Ultimately, it comes down on how you decide to treat people not whether or not your reasoning is sound or your authority is legitimate. It's a fine line between bullying and moderation.
- timoteostewart 4y agoLevel of value is perception-dependent, of course. For me, the facile-seeming "Attaboy!" comment I posted might look like a cheap gag, but for me it was actually a performative contribution to the discussion. That is, a stab at "What is an example of how a naive heavenbanning feature might look or work?" with the bonus that folks got to experience it in action, not just read a proposal about it. If my comment got a few people thinking about various ways to implement heavenbanning, then I think there was value. (Naturally, people are 100% free to decide for themselves whether they see value or not in the comment itself, and vote, or not, accordingly.)
