Show HN: An open source tool to generate Jet Engine compressors
Hi everyone started this project a year ago to generate the CAD for a Jet Engine Axial Compressor. I am now open sourcing this tool that can take in a JSON file with specs and generate the CAD assembly. Still has a lot of work to improve designs but there isn't anything the Open Source community can't accomplish!
- zote 4y agoInteresting tool, it'd surely benefit from a better README
- afl0f0 4y agoGood point, added a quick addition, will add more description and docs when I get time later tonight
- salawat 4y agoCheck out the code now before the impending ITAR takedown. (Somehow, I've got a feeling this one will end up like that Passive Radar code). Neat tool though.
- mianos 4y agoIf coolprop is still available, I doubt adding CAD on top of it would make it a target for a takedown. But, maybe so, as this does help manufacture. This said, being able to make a good blade on a CNC mill is, IMHO, only a very very small part of being able to manufacture a high performance blade for a jet engine. The material and manufacturing science in blade production is insanely complex.
- bob1029 4y agoIt may be hard, but using new additive mfg tools like the TruPrint 2000, you actually have a shot at making something that works for some # of hours. Already got my copy of the repo just in case. I've been interested in emerging turbo machinery applications for a while now.
- mianos 4y ago> you actually have a shot at making something that works for some # of hours. Where the the '#' would be pretty small. Specially with sintered additive manufacturing. They are single crystals. It is fascinating science: https://www.americanscientist.org/article/each-blade-a-single-crystal https://www.americanscientist.org/article/each-blade-a-singl...
