The neoliberals didn't integrate human rights, pollution, climate change, national security, food security etc. into their framework and so well, uhh, yeah, it didn't work out so well did it?
I honestly don't think it's a huge surprise to most people - every one of us is interested in at least one of those externalized issues, and so we've pondered the problem.
We're going to need a new framework obviously.
Pragmatically, since we don't do things very well internationally, I suppose we'll see adjustments: supply chains for national security, collective government pushback on China after a lot of behind the scenes worries it'll now be public, energy realignment forced largely due to Putin, probably some kind of strategic engagement of 'Rest of Asia' by the USA, a tightening of NATO and integration of Japan and Korea and Australia into that extended framework, probably the UN will lead some initiatives on Human Rights but I am sad to say I don't foresee a lot of progress. The situation in E. China is morbid, but China can very effectively keep the noise levels low by allowing very few people there, coercing various media entities and reliably depending on our own complacency.
