Apparently Kansas banned the 3rd edition of O’Reilly's Python Cookbook for "Describes procedures for construction of weapons, ammunition, bombs, incendiary devices" and Connecticut banned everything related to Rick and Morty for unspecified reasons.
Curiosities aside, this is all quite sad.
- greggarious 4y agoSadly PA isn’t listed so I’ll never know if I had more or less rights in my old alternative school I blasted on Boing Boing than the literal prison that they kept threatening to throw me into. It is indeed sad. There are folks in this system who perpetuate abuse for profit and/or sadism who should not be tolerated in a civilized society.

You can get the data here and follow for updates: https://observablehq.com/@themarshallproject/prison-banned-books https://observablehq.com/@themarshallproject/prison-banned-b...

- cosmojg 4y agoDo you plan to split this out from the article into its own webapp hosted at a memorable domain? Thank you for your excellent work, by the way!
- eadsjourno 4y agoI'm the data editor of this project. If anyone in this community knows (or is) the author of technical books that are banned in prisons, please reach out to me deads AT themarshallproject DOT org.
