Know what's odd to me? It seems like every company that did layoffs over the past 3 months overhired by 8% - 12% somehow. Why was it such a narrow range?

- xeromal 4y ago10% is about the number you can layoff without causing a route.
- cookieswumchorr 4y agoThe Romans knew what they were doing :)

- siggen 4y agoAre you able to add a reference? I am curious about the mention of Romans. Thanks!
- xeromal 4y agoDecimate was how the romans culled a weak unit. They would kill 1 in 10. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimation_(punishment) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimation_(punishment)
- xeromal 4y agoWow, you're right. It's a decimation to the T. Hmmmm.
- tibbydudeza 4y agoThere is also "Muskification" as seen at Twitter.
- David_Axelrod 4y agoCould be a harbinger of whats to come. Reminds me of this Sequoia graphic. https://twitter.com/PanchalBrinda/status/852947043576426500/photo/1 https://twitter.com/PanchalBrinda/status/852947043576426500/....
- fundad 4y agoNo Collusion! But if I was hiring a lot to keep people from joining my competitors, I’d also pay attention to competitors’ layoffs and take the opportunity to soften the labor market.
- fugazithehaxoar 4y agoThe "we over hired" line is mostly made up. Many of these companies did not substantially increase their head count. This has more to do with improving P&L numbers to get their stock up, since most companies' revenue is tanking currently.
- bushbaba 4y agoDidn’t Salesforce nearly double headcount since 2019 though?
- idkyall 4y agoSome sizable percentage of that is acquisitions as well though
- Espressosaurus 4y agoThe big companies all seem to have massively hired up. Meta: up 2x since 2019 (although coming back down) Google: up 1.5x since 2019 Amazon: more than double (although not clear how much of that is tech workers vs. logistics. They have certainly spammed my inbox enough) Salesforce: doubled Numbers from Macrotrends, for example: https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/CRM/salesforce/number-of-employees https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/CRM/salesforce/num...
- ptmcc 4y agoNever let a good crisis go to waste. Everyone is seizing on the opportunity to clean house and cut costs while the macro narrative is bearish. Investors and shareholders are demanding it. The days of cheap money are coming to a close so just growing revenue is not enough, now these companies need to show profit.
