Palm did it ages ago with the Pre and Pixi. Worked quite well. I will say, the newer Magsafe stuff is much stronger at helping with alignment, my Belkin dock feels like it vacuums onto my phone when I connect it. I recall the Pre and Pixi often requiring a bit more manual intervention.
