"Crimea, a peninsula in the Black Sea, was annexed by Russia in March 2014, following a US-backed, far-right coup in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine."
The source is a far leftist propaganda site.
- hammock 4y agoThe information presented in the headline is accurate and easily verified with the primary source, Twitter: https://twitter.com/DmytroKuleba/status/1370059888542556164 https://twitter.com/DmytroKuleba/status/1370059888542556164 It seems newsworthy, in retrospect. I never saw it reported in any mainstream news, left or right
- darthrupert 4y agoSure, Ukraine wanting Crimea back where it belongs is true. Twisting this fact to suggest that they caused the war -- which actually started when Russia took Crimea -- is false and propaganda.
- hammock 4y agoThe article I read doesn't suggest that Ukraine "caused the war" - it was written in 2021 after all, prior to the Russian invasion. And indeed the article acknowledges that there has been conflict since 2014 including the civil war in the east. Rather, it suggests that this development is an escalation by Ukraine that could result in a "full-scale war" or "all-out war," something that would be new. Or "war over Crimea," while until this point Ukraine had been relatively acquiescent to its annexation
- verdverm 4y agoThe invasion started in 2014, not a civil war. Recall the Russians also shot down MH17 in that year as well
