Why I’m emigrating from zero-growth Britain’
- BigBoldclick 4y agoAa someone who came here over 18yrs ago and never relied on welfare pay and (knock on wood) never used NHS for anything else other than get a prescription for Stronger paracetamol I can say I fully understand the guy. As someone who invested a lot of money and time here and doing fairly OKish I can say that what we're seeing here was easily preventable but that's another story. NHS was always overinflated machine with 20% of the jobs in it being pointless, lack of actual specialists is terrifying especially when you're getting older, think about that. Lack of dental care is terrible, most of dental practices looks more like your local corner shop. Each to their own I guess, if you come from a third world country and have nothing, then living here might look like a dream but for any western person this place will look like a shithole after you look past what the tourists are shown.Xenophobia is also runnibg rampant but in most cases quite well hidden out of plain sight.
- db48x 4y agoMoving to Dubai is just jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
- devnull3 4y agoHow so? I don't know much about Dubai (from emmigration pov) other than the fact that its a low-tax destination.
- db48x 4y agoThere are better places to find specifics, but there’s nothing there to protect you from religious persecution, they jail people who fail to pay their debts, or who speak negatively of their government, etc.
- mahmoudhossam 4y agoIt's low tax but insanely expensive. There's barely any public transport (if it exists at all) so you'll have to spend money to get anywhere. Also it being a huge mall in the desert doesn't really help, so having taxes would absolutely decimate any reason for being there.

- raincom 4y agoBritain can still attract a lot of immigrants from Asia, if their policies allow. So, immigration vs emigration flows are based on quality of life: for many in the third world, they are happy to emigrate to UK, than to Dubai, because Arab countries don't give any permanent residencies or citizenship to immigrants.
- devnull3 4y agoAs a high-earning & tax paying immigrant in UK, it seems it is much easier to come to UK illegally than by legal means. It is getting harder to get a PR. Cost of living, rise in taxes and degradation in Govt services (e.g NHS) really has got me thinking whether staying in UK is really worth it.
- raincom 4y agoWell, for almost all educated people in the third world, UK passport is worth it; for that matter, any Western passport. After getting the citizenship, sure, they can move to Dubai or anywhere else. Having a Nigerian passport or an Indian passport doesn't make it easy to get a tourist visa to the western countries.

- e2e4 4y agoAnother option could be just to register your company in a country that requires less paperwork and/or levies smaller taxes. Instead of having to move yourself.
- AnimalMuppet 4y agoBritain might regard that as tax fraud. And if you're still in Britain, you have to care about what Britain thinks about it.
