can i just step in for a second and point out its 30 replies here and just a single seeking freelancer comment. I have never seen this on HN as far as i can remember. Its also the feeling i get from my usual freelancer newsletters and linkedin offers, i have rarely seen the market so empty, not even at the beginning of the coronavirus lockdowns.
- orblivion 4y agoI thought the previous Freelancer threads had 1:10 or 1:20 ratios. It's not surprising to me, the freelancer market seems to be more network-oriented. Upwork etc being heavily skewed not in freelancers' favor.
- ml_visoft 4y agoSaw mixed feelings about upwork. There are ppl saying that is the place to be on freelancing, others (some "employers" complained about low qlty of work). I am going to make an account there soon(TM).
- bbx 4y agoAnd the single seeking freelancer is not exactly a job/project offer but rather a community to join, which is not a bad opportunity per se but probably not exactly what freelancers are looking for in this thread.
- lycos 4y agoI rarely see seeking freelancer entries here to be fair so to me, especially this soon after it was created, this does not feel that rare?
- rossdavidh 4y agoAs a freelancer who has had multiple contacts (and occasionally work) from HN monthly posts, I can say it is not that rare. The people looking for freelancers rarely post, they do apparently look over it to find people to contact, though.
- lycos 4y agoHm but you are saying the same as me, that "The people looking for freelancers rarely post". I never said they don't look at the freelancers who are looking, I haven't tried it myself so wouldn't know that. It's nice to know that happens though
- michaelteter 4y agoCould be that many business/hiring folks are still on holiday. I don't blame them for not spending their holiday on HN :).
- jeanlucas 4y agoNot that rare, especially given the thread is still new. edit: and it's january.
- ml_visoft 4y agoAre you using some sanitizer for these whoishiring threads? Or just read through / CTRL+F ?
