I have a feeling that this is just a "quality" (bug?) of people. The technology community is like other communities. Some people have a high sense of emotional intelligence and security/confidence in oneself to entertain ideas and believes they themselves don't hold. They might be able to articulate ideas that are interesting and may contradict assumed norms. Some other people may feel a spike of adrenaline and feel their egos are under attack if another doesn't share their same idea profile and may even try to impose their ideas onto others. It's just people being people, imo. I think it's up to each of us how we want to relate to various communities of people. For me; I've accepted the chaos of people and try to spend my time wisely.
