Apple finally killed off the beloved Dark Sky weather app today
- peter422 4y agoWhen they announced this I switched over to the weather app to prepare myself and it honestly isn't bad. The interface is different but all the data is in there.
- oriel 4y agoIve gotten starkly different reports between the two, including active rainfall vs not, weather alerts vs zero data. Plus the widget in iOS doesnt actively update and you have to effectively open the weather app or something else to repoll. Overall loss of the UX that made me love this app, and now I mourne it as another relic of quality lost to the current system of "software growth".
- indemnity 4y agoThe updated weather app is a terrible downgrade for me. My biggest use case is opening the app on watch for a quick glance at current data. Especially on the watch, since the upgrade (I presume to incorporate / switch to Dark Sky backends or w/e), it can take up to 30 seconds of looking at “—“ before seeing any data. This used to be instant. I guess it works great in California tho, so, no problem!
- michael1999 4y agoThe weather app was also instant until the new release. Let’s hope it gets fixed!
- postalrat 4y agoNot just the app but also the website.
- travisporter 4y agoDoes dark sky have its own satellites? Why did Apple buy this
- codeofficer 4y agoCarrot app all the way.
