Even though I agree that there is probably a fixed porcentage of bastards in the world's population, I think 5% is a too high number. That's one in twenty and I don't think I will find one in twenty people who are the classical bastard in the groups of people I interact with. I think it's more like 2-3% in my very subjective experience, of course. I also think that the setting matters a lot. If you are in a very competitive environment, like the author in the article, maybe the circumstances push the number to 5%, but if you are in a relaxed, friendly setting, I think the percentage might lower to 1-2%.
