The Kobo is one of my favourite ereaders. I have half a dozen of them now and pick them up from FB Marketplace for $10-20 whenever I see them. You can flash new firmwares by simply dropping a zip file on the SD card, and most models have support for a full Linux GUI (X11) environment. Even if you don’t want to go that far, there are simpler hacks to install some third party apps, and they all have native web browsers if you just want to serve a simple HTML page. They make fantastic little dashboards for monitoring your home, weather, or other data. It’s really a no brainer considering the cost of a standalone eink screen.
