Why the Fediverse Is Revolutionary
- dragontamer 4y agoHmm. IRC, Usenet, and PHPbb to an extent we're all open protocols. And of course Email. Finger, SSH, BBS? XMPP. I don't think that a revolution is what Fediverse should be aiming for. Let's start with 'useful', and this seems quite useful. If this lasts longer than IRQ or AOL Instant messenger, it's a success. If it lasts longer than that, a huge success. The big thing this year is that people have begun to realize the issues with these walled gardens. So we as a culture have learned and improved as a people, and can appreciate the importance of an open protocol like Mastodon.

- hayley-patton 4y agoI haven't heard Matrix considered to be a "fediverse" protocol before. It is "federated", but that isn't sufficient (e.g. email is not a fediverse protocol).
