The Pros/Cons of Vaccines is a topic ripe for discussion as the debate in the past year and a half showed. Between walking the ever-lasting fine line between eradicating diseases like Malaria, and not indoctrinating humans, messing our biology, and playing God- it is going to be a heated topic in the coming years.

- barbazoo 4y ago> fine line between eradicating diseases like Malaria, and not indoctrinating humans What is that even supposed to mean? How is a vaccine indoctrinating humans?

- deepzn 4y agoBy indoctrination I mean, need to be wary of a future where people don't question what or why they need vaccines from governments/corporations pushing for it, and vaccines or regularly taken medicine is a culturally accepted practice. And there were signs of that in the past year with Covid-19 vaccine marketing. Also with things like anti-depressants, opioids, etc that's been encouraged in the last few decades. And eventually a bad actor takes advantage of the 'indoctrination' to force any sort of evil agenda- could be from controlling biologies (reproduction, hormonal, etc) of peoples to committing acts of genocide.
- deepzn 4y agoAnd a good example of this historically, has been Tuskegee. Link: https://www.npr.org/2021/02/16/967011614/in-tuskegee-painful-history-shadows-efforts-to-vaccinate-african-americans https://www.npr.org/2021/02/16/967011614/in-tuskegee-painful...
- deepzn 4y agoSo not vaccines directly, but the parties controlling the vaccine creation, distribution, and administration programs.
- John23832 4y agoHumans “play god” all the time. Jump in a rocket and go to space? Playing god, that’s not natural for humans. Jump in a car that moves faster than you can run? Playing god, again unnatural. Consume a multivitamin? Consuming synthetic nutrients. Get an mRNA vaccine to protect yourself against a disease is where we draw the line?
- scheeseman486 4y agoHumans have been practicing crude bio and geo engineering for thousands of years, also. "Playing god" is a defining trait of modern societal humanity.
- deepzn 4y agoMore specifically by playing God in my comment meant the future may involve messing with our biology-biochemistry and things how they were intended to be by nature, and by doing so, we may be causing our own doom. Like for example, the 'gain of function' research, and the controversy surrounding that involved the possibility of creating a deadly virus from the lab. What's to say while trying to develop vaccines to certain diseases, we don't cause harm to other species, even our own.
- jjeaff 4y agoWhile I don't doubt there are some legitimate arguments against specific vaccines, for the most part, the anti-vaccine rhetoric that has become more prevalent of late is not based on expert good faith argument or even valid science at all. If anything, the last few years has made it a less ripe topic of discussion because the data is rather hard to argue with.
