- ggm 4y agoPutting Betteridge's law of N̶e̶w̶s̶p̶a̶p̶e̶r̶ scientific paper titles to one side, is been a mainstay of S.F. for literally decades that you'd use a dense encoding like Chromosomes to avoid the horrendous costs of shipping physical matter. Typically the moral dilemma in the story is breed or not. Hoyle & Wickramasinghe wrote about it too more seriously. (Panspermia) Hoyle loved a good argument, judging by how british astronomy reacted to him. But the ECC would have to be humongous.
