Ask HN: Should I interview for new jobs or stay put? Details inside

- company stock has plummeted 90%
- company never been profitable
- company did layoffs recently but no tech roles impacted
- newest team member so likely earliest to get cut?
What does HN recommend? I don’t have much experience so I think finding a new job will be a struggle in this economy.
- dudul 4y agoStart interviewing. Always be interviewing. It helps you practice and if SHTF you're already ahead.
- joshxyz 4y agoalways have extra funds for getting a new job and always keep improving yourself and stacking up things you can put in your resume so interviews will be a lay up
- joshxyz 4y agoanother risky approach is to stay and try to analyze the business itself, why are we not profitable, what are the xyz steps to get there, what are the thingsi n my control that can let me fulfill this steps. grass is greener where you water it, some risks have great rewards, others dont.

- ipaddr 4y agoAt 6 months I would stay for another 6 months at least and see how the market is. If an offer falls in your lap you could consider it.
- thevagrant 4y agoYou may find they lay off senior people before new grads, if there is an attempt to reduce costs
- codingdave 4y agoYou haven't told us the most important details: Do you enjoy it there? Are you happy with the work? With the compensation? If you rode it out and got laid off, do you have a few months savings to live on while you grab the next gig? If you are miserable and stressed, leave. If you are happy and enjoy it but just want a safety net in case of layoffs, stash some savings and keep going.
