- notacoward 4y agoReally nice to see Verilator mentioned, since I worked with (in fact was recruited by) its primary author for a job a while ago. That is a really under-appreciated piece of open-source software, along with SimH which that company also used. Those were fun times indeed.
- analognoise 4y agoUsing both Verilator AND SimH? Can you tell us more about the job? That sounds awesome.
- notacoward 4y agoThe company was SiCortex, and I was there in 2007-2008. Didn't just use those two bits of software but employed their primary authors. High density of compute to power or space, based on a home-grown MIPS variant called Ice9. The first machines did OK - on the Green500 list, installed at a bunch of interesting places - but funding for the second generation didn't happen because it was 2008, so the end was very abrupt. A shame, really, because they were way ahead of their time and a lot of what they were doing would still be a good idea. Oxide comes closest, I guess, but not really that close. A real highlight of my career TBH.
- tgsovlerkhgsel 4y agoThe size difference seems quite significant. Why is the Xilinx code so much bigger? Are there any significant limitations LiteDRAM has?
