I think the author is really gunning for his particular vision to happen. If you were a tech leader would you just let "The Great Logging Off" happen? If this becomes a huge issue you'd better bet that big tech is going to invest a lot of resources to solve it. The simplest solution would be to get better at verifying real human users, for example with better adversarial AI systems to detect non-humans or more document-based authentication tying your real identity to your user account (and thus any bans for misuse going to your real identity).
