- nickthegreek 4y agoThe only thing SBF has going for him is that he is young so he wont be geriatric when he gets out of prison.
- ben_w 4y agoPerhaps; but he (is accused of) doing more than one crime, with maximum penalties for one (money laundering) being 20 and another (securities fraud) being 25, so he may indeed leave prison geriatric: https://youtu.be/6cw6BnNugHc https://youtu.be/6cw6BnNugHc (Transcript says these details are about 22:30 into the video)
- nickthegreek 4y agoThey will serve them concurrently. I’d be surprised if he gets 20. Something in the 11-15 range sound probable.
- Analemma_ 4y agoPeople were saying with absolute confidence that SBF wouldn’t be arrested, right up until the moment he was arrested, at which point they immediately pivoted to this new argument, without ever admitting they were wrong. I wish one of you would actually place money on this bet, so I could bet against you and win some easy cash.
- TechBro8615 4y agoHe was arrested the day he was scheduled to testify to the House. I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing justice until he's actually in jail.
- ngetchell 4y agoThose two events have nothing in common.
- Analemma_ 4y agoPeople keep saying “look, he was arrested, just as he was about to give testimony to the House!”, and never elaborate on what that means or why it would be suspicious. Please be explicit: what is your theory here? What was he going to say at the House testimony that he hasn’t already said in all his tweets, ill-advised DM’s to Vox journalists, etc?
- TechBro8615 4y agoI've been pretty clear in my past comments that my theory is that SBF is a cut-out for an agency-led money laundering operation. FTX was mostly wash trades and absolutely did not have 1 million customers. I don't even believe there are any major victims of fraud, nevermind the claimed 1 million people who lost "$8 billion." Of note, the DOJ has asked to seal the records documenting the victims. The entire exchange, from setup to collapse, was engineered as an intelligence gathering and money laundering operation. Next, it will be used as an excuse to pass crypto legislation and clear the way for CDBCs managed by the Fed and its Wall Street banking cartel.
- Analemma_ 4y ago> FTX was mostly wash trades Mate, I have some bad news for you about literally the entire crypto ecosystem. Also, this does not address my question at all. If your theory is that SBF was going to blow the lid off this whole setup at the House testimony, and so he was arrested before it could take place, that does not explain why he hasn’t simply blabbed on Twitter, or when he was texting Kelsey Piper, or at any of the hundreds of other opportunities to do so.
- TechBro8615 4y agoNothing that dramatic. The guy just doesn't know when to shut up, and if someone else is running him then it seems like the safe choice to make sure he can't testify and say something stupid. If my theory is correct (which I admit may be unlikely), then I doubt he'd openly admit to it. But he would feel cocky and untouchable, so sending him to jail in the Bahamas for a few days might be a good wake up call for him.
- Invictus0 4y agoThe only way politicians (the president) can intervene is by pardon. Why would they pardon this guy?
- encryptluks2 4y agoDo you honestly believe that politicians have no impact on judges decisions? I guess you haven't followed the Trump saga.
- SkipperCat 4y agoThe concept of having a politician in your pocket is more of a movie plot than reality. Many politicians will gladly take your money as donations to their campaign. They will also enact legislation that is favorable to your industry and whatnot. But one thing they will not do is sacrifice their political career for someone who's one of the most despised persons in crypto. What's the benefit for the politician? SBF isn't going to be doing them any favors for the rest of his life. SBF played his hand, he lost, he's alone and it's over.
- RachelF 4y agoBenefit is that SBF keeps quite about the not-so-legal "donations"? However he can only play that game so much until he ends up like Epstein.
- SkipperCat 4y agoThe cat is out of the bag on that one. Several politicians have already either returned their contributions or donated them to charity. The onus of that is all on SBF, not the receivers of the funds. But I do agree with you on your second point. SBF could commit suicide out of fear of a long prison term or just the shame of what he has done.
