- aaomidi 4y agoDid you read the article? Getting a 20% wage increase when you’re on the “bottom” earners is peanuts.
- xapata 4y agoThat's better than a real wage decline, which is what had been happening for decades.
- xyzzyz 4y agoAh, so when the retails workers strike to get 20% raise, we should just tell them “you guys are making peanuts anyways, what difference does extra 20% makes to you? You’ll still be making peanuts”. This will convince them that the 20% raise is immaterial, and won’t make any real difference for them, which will save a lot of money on wages.
- lukebitts 4y agoNo, when they ask for 20% raise you tell then that's peanuts and increase it to 100%
- rco8786 4y agoAre you trying to spin a 20% wage increase as bad, somehow?
- richbell 4y ago> Are you trying to spin a 20% wage increase as bad, somehow? No, they're saying that it doesn't go nearly far enough to address the massive inequality and poverty issue.
- jollyllama 4y agoDoesn't matter, inflation is just that bad.
- schemescape 4y agoHaving the lowest quartile gain the most (relative to other quartiles) doesn’t necessarily imply that they had real (inflation adjusted) wage gains. Edit: Also, that chart doesn’t even show the top 1%. I’m not saying the article is correct, just pointing out faulty logic.
- dahart 4y agoThe chart doesn’t even show the top 10%; they intentionally exclude data above $150k annually after 2003, which is 82nd percentile in 2019. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Household_income_in_the_United_States#Distribution_of_household_income_in_2019_according_to_US_Census_data https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Household_income_in_the_United...
