Reading the full guidelines now I can tell I've broken some of them in the past too. I believe in this case you may have missed one of the more nuanced guidelines when labeling my comment as flamebait: "Please respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says, not a weaker one that's easier to criticize." My original comment has the key phrase "with the rest of" which shows the subject (US) , as a part of the set being referenced ("developed world")
