You're absolutely right. However, that trial-and-error can be really difficult for people who have less ability to maintain immediate communication with their doctor, retrieve a new prescription, etc. For someone like me in their 30s it would be a minor-ish annoyance, but for someone who is elderly, or who is having some sort of medical emergency, such an inefficiency goes from being an annoyance to being a pretty critical issue.
