How many clinical trials have been conducted for transexual treatments on minors? Various transgender health "associations" recommend the minimum age for starting gender transition treatment, including sex hormones and surgeries with really no clinical trial. They don't even bother to track the patients after the procedure for a minimum of 10-20 years. As long as the parent is convinced to do it it's treated like a botox procedure.
I don't even mention the elephant in the room where any possible treatment for homosexuality is deemed torture regardless of patient's choice/wish while trans treatments which are way more invasive are recomendeed to minors like candy.
It's really politically driven and everything must be portraited either as a preference or "feature" otherwise you are far-right or racist. People no longer have mental, gender or sexual disorders. Apparently they no longer have disabilities either. If you dare to express a different opinion you are far right and lbtqaz+ hater.

- chownie 4y agoThere's a ton of what I hope is hyperbole here, almost the entirety of your comment is untrue and certainly not corroborated by your one source and then link to a hackernews thread full of terrible "jokes". No one gets any surgery until they're at least 16, some are offered puberty blockers but the vast majority don't even get that. The crux of the rest of your comment sort of falls apart after that. With regards to "treatment for homosexuality" you'll find vanishingly few homosexual people fighting to bring it back, and curiously large numbers of heterosexual people clamouring for it to be used on their family members. As a homosexual man, I'll suggest we leave the conversion therapy alone for a few generations and actually let some gay people live healthy lives so people don't think they have to be hetero to be happy.
- Zigurd 4y agoRegarding "treatment for homosexuality is deemed torture" is a strangely anachronistic view, in the full meaning of anachronism. It isn't just outdated. It is outdated in a specific way to an era of white churchgoing conformist America that is both out of step with current practice and ahistoric in terms of how fluid sexuality has been over the broad sweep of history, or even not that broad a sweep. And it is a current bugbear of far-right extremists: "For the children" is the most deceptive flag fascism flies.
- agubelu 4y agoFor the sake of specificity, which "gender transition treatment" are you talking about exactly? Hormonal treatments and puberty blockers are generally very easily reversible. If we are talking about surgery, which age do you suggest is fit for giving consent to it? Why should it be different from the age of general medical consent for other equally life-changing treatments? It's also interesting that you mention "any possible treatment for homosexuality" as if homosexuality is a condition that needs treatment. I'd be willing to bet an arm and a leg that more than 99% of the "patients" who "wish" to undergo those "treatments" do so under immense social pressure from people who still think homosexuality is a disease than can be cured. Speaking of that, they also don't "bother to track the patients after the procedure for a minimum of 10-20 years" to see if they have been cured :)
