- lern_too_spel 4y agoDr. Prasad is a running joke in COVID policy editorial pages now, and I thought this forum was well aware. Every single thing he posts is wrong in some way and is basically just virtue-signalling to diehard libertarians. Look at the responses to his latest tweet: https://twitter.com/VPrasadMDMPH/status/1606740677915971585?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet https://twitter.com/VPrasadMDMPH/status/1606740677915971585?... Here he is pretending that the former director of the NIH asked for people's careers to be destroyed even though any of us with at least fifth grade reading ability can read what Dr. Collins wrote and properly conclude otherwise: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33257352 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33257352. He consistently asks for RCTs and pretends that without them the conclusion should be that they don't work when we have laboratory studies showing their effectiveness, so our prior should be that they do work, just like parachutes, which have also not had RCTs. (According to Prasad, there might be second order effects of parachutes that make them deadlier than they are life-saving, so we should wait for RCTs before recommending them.) His hardcore libertarian virtue signaling has drawn admonition from his professional peers: https://cancerletter.com/the-cancer-letter/20211008_4/ https://cancerletter.com/the-cancer-letter/20211008_4/ https://cancerletter.com/guest-editorial/20211008_5/ https://cancerletter.com/guest-editorial/20211008_5/ https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/dr-vinay-prasad-echoes-the-common-antivax-trope-of-portraying-a-desire-not-to-catch-a-deadly-disease-as-irrational-and-mental-illness/ https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/dr-vinay-prasad-echoes-the-... In this very article, he pretends that adding the vaccine to the childhood immunization schedule, which makes it free for patients, will cause more people to stop getting other vaccines and hurt public health than it would cause people to get this vaccine and improve it. The assertion is ludicrous to anybody who gives it even the barest thought.
