    This is a way for them to raise money. The people bidding right now aren't really the target market - they're supporters.

    1) Bragging rights -- being able to say you have board #X, where X <= 10. 2) Supporting an awesome project and helping it grow.

  So much for the Raspbery being an affordable board. Making bids like this is going to blow the whole concept out of proportion a scare away a lot of people.
