Google reshuffles to meet ChatGPT threat and Sundar's not having a happy holiday

It ignores more and more of your query showing you only vaguely related content that is mostly blogspam. I don't think it is an easy problem but I'd love to see them really try and innovate. It is clear to me that ChatGPT isn't a search engine replacement. But I see a lot of valuable properties. It is much better at reacting to the full context and smaller details of the "query". It can also pull together, summarize and personalize the response very well rather than just simple snippets. I think if you could teach it to cite sources it would be a powerful research tool. The resulting UI could even end up similar to what Google has now, a summary at the top and links/references below.

The first is the subject of this article: a new technology, and it might be something like ChatGPT, is going to blow up the search/advertising industry. When I am not writing books or coding, much of my digital life is just my Apple Watch. Siri is not a bad interface for interacting with the watch but a more conversational model for searching for information and using watch functionality will take the whole experience to another level. The second thing that I expect to upset the entire tech industry is a global economic slowdown. People are good at prioritizing scant personal economic resources when pushed against a wall, and will avoid unnecessary expenses.
