After some more googling: 120V mains with 15A breaker provides a max of about 1800W, while a 3-phase line at 24 A provides 16500W.
That's almost an order of magnitude.
This also means that the writer is also an order of magnitude off wrt how long it takes to home charge a (Tesla) in Europe: it's hours instead of days.
This discrepancy may lead to an incorrect assessment of EV viability in Europe.
- jaclaz 4y agoDon't be so sure about that applying to Europe at large. To give you a counter example here (Italy) house electricity contracts are typically 3, 4.5 or 6 kW (a few contracts are 10 kW), you won't get easily a 20 kW contract in most places simply because there is not (yet) the infrastructure to deliver that kind of power to homes, and such "high power" contracts are - last time I asked - very expensive for the monthly fixed fees. As a side note, in order to have more than 6 kW there are a few added technical requirements (the electrical plant needs to be certified in a different, more strict way) that add costs.
- Kim_Bruning 4y agoFair enough. Europe is a big place.
