I did not know that… Mosaic had an edit button? What did it do?
- prepend 4y agoEdited the page. Opened the html in notepad, or whatever your local editor was.
- dmitryminkovsky 4y agoIt was a toolbar button or a menu item? Did it update when you saved? I wonder what the history is there
- cc101 4y agoI don't recall that, but it seem quite likely. I still use HC in Basilisk II sometimes. Dragging out Xcode for something quick and easy is overkill.
- dmitryminkovsky 4y agoWhat is HC? Basilisk II seems to be a mac emulator, but I’m not getting anything for HC.
- giantrobot 4y agoHyperCard.
- dmitryminkovsky 4y agoOhhhh, right… thank you :)
- cc101 4y agoYou both are right. Basilisk II is a macOS emulator. I run macOS 8.1 on it. I still have my original HC disk somewhere and Danny Goodman's great book on HC script. I probably should have said that I run HC on macOS 8.1 in Basilisk II emulation.
- jamal-kumar 4y agoWhat are you creating in hypercard these days?
- Daub 4y agoThe WorldWideWeb (Tim Berner Lee’s first web browser) was both a browser and editor. Also, most browser precursors that preceded it did not differentiate between consumer and author. The WorldWideWeb entry in Wikipedia tells us that the first browsers which did not feature editing were known as ‘passive browsers’. Passive indeed. This is the internet we nearly had.
- lolive 4y agoFor me, Obsidian has been the first experience of building up my own read/write Web. After 25 years of passive Web, it has been a very refreshing experience.
- lioeters 4y agoThe original documenation for TBL's WorldWideWeb browser and editor: > The "WorldWideWeb" application for the NeXT is a prototype Hypertext browser/editor. It allows direct access to Hypertext servers, files and news. http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/NeXT/WorldWideWeb.html http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/NeXT/WorldWideWeb.html > The team created so called "passive browsers" which do not have the ability to edit because it was hard to port this feature from the NeXT system to other operating systems. Porting to the X Window System was not possible as nobody on the team had experience with the X Window System. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WorldWideWeb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WorldWideWeb Edit: Ooh, I found a screenshot of the HyperMedia Browser/Editor version 0.13. http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/browsers.evolt.org/browsers/worldwideweb/NeXT/tims_editor.gif http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/browsers.evolt.org/browse...
- Daub 4y agoRegarding Mosaic in particular, Wikipedia tells us that: > Mosaic was the first browser to explore the concept of collaborative annotation in 1993 but never passed the test state.
