What is Cybertruck's target market? I find it hard to believe there is a non negligible amount of people who want one.

- satiric 4y agoThese days, pickups seem to be more often seen as utilitarian symbols than utilitarian vehicles. The idea that you could haul a lot of stuff matters more than having a job or hobby where you need to haul a lot of stuff. I see the cybertruck similarly - no, it's not very utilitarian, but it still has that thing where the idea matters more than the actual functionality. (Just like the idea of the windows being bulletproof means more than them actually being bulletproof...) A lot of people genuinely like the look of it, they like Tesla's, and would be happy to have one. It's fun, and it's a conversation starter, and it can still haul groceries. The stats don't matter, it's the experience of being in a dystopian cyberpunk truck that matters. I certainly wouldn't buy a Tesla (and not just because I don't have the money for one) but I can see where The Muskrat is coming from.
- vardump 4y agoWho knows, although there are 1.5M reservations. No idea how many have cancelled, but it's still probably at least 1M.
