Show HN: Price My Spotify Library
Hi HN, I built this tool to estimate how much it would cost to purchase all the music in a user's Spotify library and individual playlists. Kind of interesting, maybe you'll like it too
- qup 4y agoI'm gonna check this out when I'm back at my PC. Sorry it didn't get more traction, it's a great idea. I think it would be cool to extend it to provide links and maybe like price shopping, if there's any serious consideration to actually buy the libraries.
- davak 4y agoAgree. You could consider marketing to the DJ community where actually buying the music is commonplace.
- devrob 4y agoHi there, funny enough part of the motivation for me to build this was that I am a DJ and purchase a lot of music. I'm actually building an app right called Crates which is focused on DJs and music purchasers https://getcrates.xyz https://getcrates.xyz. I was thinking of integrating purchases into the app somehow, we will see!
- mojifwisi 4y agoThe concept is interesting, thanks for sharing. I suggest that in future iterations/versions, it could take the duration of the tracks into account: a two-minute track certainly doesn't cost as much as a track that is almost three hours long (extreme example, I know, but album-length tracks are not that uncommon).[1] [1]: https://open.spotify.com/track/6jfQOSSQImYlyxeSAi6jh7?si=37567a19b0fb4b7d https://open.spotify.com/track/6jfQOSSQImYlyxeSAi6jh7?si=375...
- antipotoad 4y agoNice idea, though this doesn’t seem to be doing more than multiplying the song count by $0.99. With a simple UI and lookups to an actual song catalog for prices, this could be a neat tool.
- heinekan 4y agoFor me (United States) the pricing for songs is inaccurate if relying on iTunes. A single song is actually $1.29, and from what I sampled full albums are typically $12.99. Definitely a cool idea that could be expanded on!
- devrob 4y agoYep this is really fair and good feedback :) For a first hacky iteration the 0,99 was an average iTunes track.
- barbazoo 4y agoI get it, I want to get off the public cloud too. But as someone with a pretty random and shallow taste in music, I also appreciate how Spotify broadens my horizon by suggesting other, similar songs with similar attributes but slight variations. That helps me eventually discovering genres or styles that I like. I think there's a lot of value in that for a lot of people. Maybe Spotify could be one of the good guys.
