I think we need more than one Hacker News on the web

- tosc 4y ago> Create & grow a community of your dreams with all the features you love from HackerNews (and more!) How did you replicate dang? Was there enough history to train a large language model?
- Finnucane 4y agoSo the next time someone says ‘is there a Hacker News for [X topic]’ the answer ca be ‘roll your own.’
- bell-cot 4y agoThere has been free software to create your own on-line community for what, about 35 years now? Certainly it's possible to get the software & tech wrong - but once we got beyond the "a natural monopoly, for all the kids who can't afford to dial into a long-distance BBS" era, the software was never the real barrier to success. Quality long-term community members aren't like fake Facebook followers, where you can just buy 'em at $X per thousand from some clickshop in the far east.
- gardenfelder 4y agoNo mention of their business model. Looks like an HN clone from the image; where's the repo?
- xcdzvyn 4y agoCan this title be changed please? It's entirely unrelated to the link and reads (to me at least) as somebody sincerely encouraging others to build communities around their hobbies - it is in fact a blatant advertisement for a blatant copy-cat service. I'm entertained by their Twitter account already having been banned.[0] [0] https://twitter.com/hnplus https://twitter.com/hnplus
