Twitter brings Elon Musk’s genius reputation crashing down to earth
- nla 4y agoSo great to see non-partisanship during the holidays.
- xqcgrek2 4y agoThe Bezos Post continues its crashing decline down to earth
- cs702 4y agoIt feels too soon to judge the actions of Musk and his team. I mean, they're barely starting to figure out how the heck they're going to turn around Twitter into a sustainable business. It's not exactly an easy task! Everything Twitter does is surely up for internal debate at the moment. From the outside, it looks like Musk & co. are trying lots of different ideas, including some crazy ones, to figure out what works and what doesn't. I'm going to wait to pass judgment until things start stabilizing.
- fragmede 4y agoI'm sure there's more than meets the eye, but it seems all Musk had to do was come in, fire a smaller portion, more tactically, and then not be the main character every day, driving advertisers away. Q3 2022 Twitter was only some $200 million shy of being profitable so keeping the same ad revenue and merely cutting costs, just sitting back for a couple months would have resulted in profitability. Now, if you come in with a need to exercise some political angle then you have to admit that then profitability is no longer the number one goal.
- cs702 4y agoBy all accounts, he's not a normal person. To quote the man himself: "To anyone I've offended, I just want to say: I re-invented electric cars and I'm sending people to Mars in a rocket ship. Did you also think I was gonna be a chill, normal dude?"[a] He was never going to come in and execute a conventional "first, don't kill the patient" kind of plan. The upshot is that yes, there's a real chance the patient will die a horrible death, but we don't know if that's what will actually happen yet... so I'm waiting to pass judgment. -- [a] https://theweek.com/speedreads/981823/elon-musk-incredulously-asks-why-people-thought-hed-chill-normal-dude-during-snl-monologue https://theweek.com/speedreads/981823/elon-musk-incredulousl...
- fragmede 4y agoThat's fair. My point is Musk's goal isn't to make Twitter profitable in the short term but that it wouldn't have taken some exceptional genius to do so. Private equity/hedge funds would just have found someone boring to follow their well-established playbook. https://twitter.com/yishan/status/1593515620942815232 https://twitter.com/yishan/status/1593515620942815232
- cs702 4y agoAgree :-)
- Zigurd 4y ago> Everything Twitter does is surely up for internal debate... Had there been more internal debate and less diktat, fewer blunders would have shipped, only to be retracted a day or a week later. Anyone contradicting Elon is gone or soon will be. There's no reason to expect the current rate of blunders to decline.
