Well as of late even big providers are not sending verification codes. My main has a number attached to it (for api reasons), but the other day I needed to log in on my freshly reinstalled laptop and choose phone as my 2FA device was in another room as I was being lazy, and I never got the code even though I must have validated it in the past. It was around the time that Elon tweeted out something about telcos sending out spam sms in twitters name.
