Covert Sabotage Campaign in Russia Under CIA Direction
- themodelplumber 4y ago> Two days before February’s invasion of Ukraine, the allied spy service through which the CIA is running the sabotage campaign used a covert communications system to activate its sleeper cells across Russia, according to a former military official and a person who has been briefed on the campaign. Those cells discreetly moved to the locations of buried munitions caches around the country and dug up explosives and other material needed for upcoming operations. After inventorying and checking their equipment, the operatives waited for the orders to hit their targets. > JSOC has also supported the sabotage operations with targeting information from intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms, such as drones, that can see and hear deep into Russia, they said. > “Drones we don’t even know about yet are loitering all over the Ukrainian and Russian airspace,” the person said. > The longer the war lasts, the more likely it is that the sabotage campaign will become more brazen, according to a former special operations official, particularly if Putin escalates to the use of Weapons of Mass Destruction. “As we need to send a stronger message to Putin, you may see ops in Moscow and other key cities,” the former official said. Author: Jack Murphy, cofounder of SOFREP, eight-year Army Special Operations veteran who served as a Sniper and Team Leader in 3rd Ranger Battalion and as a Senior Weapons Sergeant on a Military Freefall team in 5th Special Forces Group.
- syzarian 4y agoA former sergeant is very unlikely to have any knowledge of what the CIA or any other secretive U.S. organization is doing in Russia.
- themodelplumber 4y agoAre you ignoring his more recent history, like the part about being the cofounder of SOFREP? The Team House podcast which he runs has also featured enough ex-CIA guests that he certainly has some very solid contacts & knowledge both. - syzarian 4y agoI think there is no reason to believe any of the claims he makes are true (or false). Like all punditry it is part performative and part pandering to whatever the target audience will buy into. Being ex-CIA doesn’t indicate, necessarily, that that person is “in the know”. I doubt very much there is active involvement of the U.S. within Russia. It would make no sense for the U.S. to be involved directly. I think it reasonable to believe the U.S. gives Ukraine actionable information in real time.
- themodelplumber 4y agoWhere did this believe question come from?
- syzarian 4y agoYou quoted some assertions made by the gentleman in question. I thought this meant you agreed with said assertions. If you don’t agree with the assertions you quoted then I don’t understand why you quoted them or why we are having a conversation about them. Maybe we are talking past each other.
- theCrowing 4y agoMilitary/Spy fanfiction with just enough receipts (ie. yes there really is partisan activity in Russia) to keep it out of the John Clancy bookshelf. Even if it's true I absolutely love how everyone of these special forces veterans goes straight to endangering their former colleagues just for 5 minutes of fame. I wonder what they would say if they were still active.
- hindsightbias 4y agoWas he one of thirty who claimed to have shot OBL? Decades back, if you met someone at a bar who said they were SF, they were lying. There weren’t many in SF and those who were didn’t brag. Today, with ~90K in SF and the turnover being pretty high, there are more SF vets than there are bartenders. It’s not so special anymore.
- themodelplumber 4y agoThirty? I was aware of two rivals in this claim: Bissonnette and O'Neill. Were there more? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Bissonnette_(author) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Bissonnette_(author) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_J._O%27Neill https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_J._O%27Neill
- greggarious 4y ago>Covert Sabotage Campaign in Russia Under CIA Direction So what? Good. Shut up about it.
- themodelplumber 4y agoWe tried that with covert ops in the 20th century. It just led to abuse of power and the backlash effect. Things need to be published and this is how society works these days, for the better. If a coverup is going to be happen then it needs to be justified through means that are legally available to the parties in question.
- greggarious 4y agoIf we are going to maintain the facade anything but natural law is currently in effect with the social contract so thoroughly broke in so many contexts, then you need to reread the Budapest Memorandum. (Trust me, there are things you do not need or want to know.)
