- Rebelgecko 4y agoIt's also notable that they're only able to do this with the cooperation of the federal government. For the most part, asset forfeiture without due process isn't a thing in California. But it is at the federal level, so local cops can launder money by sending it to the federal DOJ, who take a 20% cut and return the rest of the money to the local police through something called the "equitable sharing program"
