Iran’s Online Crackdown Prompts Smuggling of Starlink Kits
- Mountain_Skies 4y agoInteresting that Starlink went from "we'll only operate in countries that have given us permission" to "we will operate in a manner that best pleases western governments" rather quickly. The earlier pledge of neutrality was based on the belief that Starlink is very vulnerable to attack and makes a good target should it be used as an arm of the "rules based international community" which is a self-anointed group. In the case of Iran, that country probably doesn't have the ability to do much harm to Starlink, but it sends a message to countries who have the ability to Kessler the whole thing out of existence that Starlink will be used as a policy tool of the West.
- Kukumber 4y agoWhen Starlink works in close relationship with the US army, one can suspect some military purposes [1, 2, 3] Specially when they get caught red handed like in Ukraine They then quickly pushed the smoke narrative wich consist of: "US gov please help us fund Starlink to help Ukrainians keep access to the internet, why do you refuse" Some interesting food: https://www.nytimes.com/1979/08/30/archives/a-scramble-for-the-airwaves-poorer-nations-challenge-us-fastpaced.html https://www.nytimes.com/1979/08/30/archives/a-scramble-for-t...
