Musk’s frequent Twitter polls are at risk of bot manipulation
- smt88 4y agoThey're also at risk of Musk manipulation. No one is actually under any illusion that these polls are the "will of the people".
- theGeatZhopa 4y agoThat's the Job. You need to filter the bots out. By having the big pols with millions of voter's, engagement of each polling account can be measured and the suspicious one's (the retwitting bots) can be identified and pulled out of the system. Musk always wanted to know how much bots are there on Twitter. Now he has a good chance to Filter them by this kind of information intelligentsia :) Also are bots a risk and threat for amplifying misinformation and generally building of positions. Automated scrapping and voting = death.
- jacquesm 4y agoBot detection isn't a simple problem.
- theGeatZhopa 4y agoYes, it surely is. Full akn. But. It's easier than assumed. You need the Link-Graph. What account retwitt what and follow whom. By checking when & what, it's possible to find patterns. Like one "retwitt speed".. one could make it random in time, but it will still be different from a true account with much less spread in retwitt-time and such... Two years ago, there was a paper published. This paper analysed the bad influence on discussion and democracy online. I did a quick google research, but did not find it again. There, the author's used techniques to recognize bots and make a connection between them. The methods used for classifying as a bot haven't been to complicated. It's just a problem to get the bot accounts active. Musk did that with that poll. Now, the fake accounts can be recognized and a mesh can be build. Next step is to shadow ban them. This will reduce the amount of bots. Having the amount of bots reduced, one is in better position to show that left accounts are real users. The advertisers will like it.
- jrochkind1 4y agoWhat does "full akn" mean?
- jacquesm 4y agoThat's a feature, not a bug.
