- KMag 4y agoThat's my experience in finance, as well. Jim Cramer mentioned that when he interviewed at Goldman, they asked him what he planned to do when he left Goldman. Lots of people hit comfortable retirement money at Goldman in their late 30s to late 40s and pivot to working in the public sector. I went on a tour in Cambodia through a company that donates a portion of its profits to local schools. The last day of our tour, I had dinner with the guy who started the company, and it turns out that running a business that benefits one of the poorest countries is his soft retirement after leaving his position as an MD in Goldman's London office in his mid 40s. I left Goldman for a hedge fund, but if I didn't have a kid, I'd be soft retired by now.
