I'm actually curious, many blurays I own have what seems like artificial noise added and I've wondered if that's there to hide compression artifacts.
- Scaevolus 4y agoH264 and H265 have an optional similar feature for grain synthesis, but very few decoders implement it so it's not something you'd find at the codec level in blurays. Of course, film grain is a common effect added during the editing process.
